Desktop Wallpaper Cycler

To change your desktop wallpaper periodically, say every 10 minutes, do the following:
# cd /etc/cron.d
cat <desktop-image
# change desktop display
*/10 * * * * gtoft export DISPLAY=:0.0 && /usr/X11R6/bin/xloadimage -onroot -geometry 1280x1024
-fullscreen `/usr/X11R6/bin/xscreensaver-getimage-file /share/images/ --name` 2>/dev/null

Ensure the correct user is running the cron job (gtoft, for my desktop - change it for yours). Also, ensure the image directory is available. Full paths are required unless you set the path in cron. You can change the timing of the image switch - see the manpage for crontab.
